Los Angeles Philharmonic/Osvaldo Golijov Three-Week Residency
Mr. Golijov immigrated to the United States in 1986, where he earned his Ph.D. under George Crumb at the University of Pennsylvania. A past winner of the Koussevitzky Composition Prize, Mr. Golijov has more recently won France's Diapason D'Or (1997), the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's Stoeger Prize for Contemporary Music (1996), and the Kennedy Center's Friedheim Awards (in 1993 and again in 1995). In addition to his suite from The Passion According to St. Mark, which will commemorate the 250th anniversary of J.S. Bach's death, other upcoming premieres include works written for the Kronos Quartet, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, a violin concerto for Pamela Frank and the Minnesota Orchestra, and the soundtrack for a new Sally Potter film starring Johnny Depp and Cate Blanchett. |
