Daniel Schnyder's upcoming residency builds on an existing relationship with the Milwaukee Symphony that began in 1997 when he was commissioned to write a work for organ and orchestra to celebrate new Music Director Andreas Delfs' first season and the opening of the newly restored Uihlein Hall. Mr. Schnyder is currently working on a second Milwaukee Symphony commission: a piece for orchestra and chorus to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus in 2001. For his Music Alive residency, Mr. Schnyder will develop a new music listening series for the orchestra staff and board of directors, as well as for students at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.
Mr. Schnyder was born in Zurich and studied flute at the Conservatory of Winterthur in Switzerland and saxophone, jazz arranging, and composition at Boston's Berklee College of Music. Many of his compositions combine classical and jazz elements, and he recently recorded two CDs with his trio combining jazz and chamber music.
